Research:
It has recently been brought to my attention that book a exists in the Liverpool (Central Library) and London (British Library), written in 1925 and greatly detailing the Statham rise from its first owner, Simon de Stathum. The information came from a post on the rootsweb Statham message board, and is by all means very interesting, view the original post. A follow up was sent on the rootsweb mailing list stating the work is also available as a film, I am currently seeking the authors permission to display those details here. The following information is not confirmed to be correct. It was mostly taken from a short Statham history as purchased from an unofficial source. If you notice a mistake please don't hesitate to let me know.

The Name:
A locational name from the village of Statham in County Chesire, England. The village name derived from the Old English word 'Steap', meaning 'the landing place'. (Paul from Hampshire - I hope you don't mind me adding in your information) An alternative view is that Statham (the surname, not the village) was a derivative of the name - De Statler, belonging to a freeman who had Chester pier around 1413.

Early Stathams:
A record of a man named Stathum was made in Chesire in the year 1285. A man named John De Statham was recorded in County Cambridgeshire, England in the earlier year of 1273.

Dig out those nuggets of information you have stored in the back of your memory for oh-so long, knowing that one day they would have a purpose! Send them in and help piece together the Station of Statham information!! How many Statham's are there in your region. Time to lug the phone book out! Let's get some proportion as to just how many of us there really are. Do you know when the first Statham arrived in your town? Or if you know anything on the village or Statham ancestry within the village, I encourage you to let us know. To email me, write to staythumb@noserious.com and I will put it all up here for the public. Alternatively you can post the information to the guestbook for us all to see.
